Storm over New Orleans

The National Hurricane Centre adopted the use of women's names in 1953 and fifteen years later men's names were being used.

Lists of names, alternating male and female, are prepared for each year.
There are six lists, recycled every six years. If a storm is particularly devastating, such as Katrina, the name is retired, not to be used again.
