Although the original territory of Louisiana was first discovered in the 16th century it wasn't until 1682 that it was named after the French King Louis XIV. By the time the Cajuns arrived, the rest of the colonies were involved with Indian wars, witchcraft trials and a rebellious war with the English.
Elsewhere during this period architectural masterpieces such as the Taj Mahal in India, the Palace of Versailles in France and St. Paul's Cathedral in London were completed.
